"Click" sound and my car won't start...

Thats weird, the only time I ever saw that car smoke was when VTEC engaged. When are you seeing the black smoke?

VTEC. It's like a "puff" of black smoke. It's not constant. I also have some residue on my rear bumper.

If your car is white... we call that vtec juice. I had it on the back of my car... but then again I had a snail and a vtec motor.

Open it up and replace the starter contacts. If the 'contact' portion of the plunger is thin, replace that too.

Problem solved.
