I lived in va beach long enough to know, the city motto: Welcome to Virginia beach, NOW FUCK YOU AND GIVE US MONEY does not have that certain family charm the tourist clamor for.

You have to have truck tags to get the truck bumper heights.....

No person shall drive on a public highway any motor vehicle registered as a truck if it has been modified by alteration of its altitude from the ground to the extent that its bumpers, measured to any point on the lower edge of the main horizontal bumper bar, exclusive of any bumper guards, do not fall within the limits specified herein for its gross vehicle weight rating category. The front bumper height of trucks whose gross vehicle weight ratings are 4,500 pounds or less shall be no less than 14 inches and no more than 28 inches, and their rear bumper height shall be no less than 14 inches and no more than 28 inches. The front bumper height of trucks whose gross vehicle weight ratings are 4,501 pounds to 7,500 pounds shall be no less than 14 inches and no more than 29 inches, and their rear bumper height shall be no less than 14 inches and no more than 30 inches.....blah bla

No person shall drive on a public highway any motor vehicle registered as a passenger motor vehicle if it has been modified by alteration of its altitude from the ground to the extent that its bumpers, measured to any point on the lower edge of the main horizontal bumper bar, exclusive of any bumper guards, are not within the range of fourteen inches to twenty-two inches above

Now most cops will go by the truck law anyways, but if they want to be a dick, they can write you a ticket if you have regular passenger plates and bumpers over 22 inches.
Hence why i have truck plates on a suzuki samurai. Since its registered as a truck, i get to go by the 28" front and rear and they cant say shit about it.

you can have make on the registration as truck without truck tags . . .my s15 says truck on the title/registration but have regular tags on it .. . .

we did have a couple sammi's . . one was registred as an suv and one as a truck . . . it was kinda wierd

i think if i build another street truck i'll probably build a c60 or something with a gvw of 21000 so i won't have bumper height restrictions

Who the hell cruises the strip anyway? I have to agree with the bumper laws. The last thing I want when I'm driving a sports car (or any car for that matter) is to get rear ended by a monster truck that will drive over me.

Exactly... but seriously... when I worked for GEICO I had to inspect some pretty bad wrecks involving large trucks destroying small cars. I remember driving down Oceana once and seeing where a kid in a Civic had rear ended a jacked up Ford... dudes tow hitch was in the kid's windshield.
