the guy that has the jeep. is not to bright. we just did the work. he put nice rims on it to. seen it a week ago and had the steel wheels back on it. this guy has never had it off road. the jeep was ok the way it was b4 we did the swap. this guy still comes to us to do all of his work. on every thing he has. he cant change oil. i cant beleave some of the things he has done. all he gained from the swap is use more gas. and has power stearing now. you know you need that extra power to run that pump..........lol this jeep never goes on the high way. so he dont need the power there. he is a fool when it comes to cars . i have a 4.0 jeep for sale for $2500. pm for pics if you what to save on your swap

I've done the swap myself. Here is the deal:

I'm assiming your talking about a 2.5 to 4.0 swap. The motor swap is pretty straightforward, you just need to get motor mounts from a 4.0 TJ to bolt the block on. Other than that make sure you have the wiring harness and ECU for the 4.0. The biggest factor in the swap that many people overlook is the transmission. I'm assuming you have the AX-5 manual transmission in your TJ. You will need to put in the AX-15 manual in its place. The AX-5 will not bolt up to the 4.0, and even if it did it would not be able to handle the torque. You can throw in an AW4 auto, but wiring up an automatic tranny is a pain in the ASS (I know from experience). If you have any more questions, feel free to PM me.

I regeared to 4.88s. If you have a 4cyl you have 4.10s stock. I'm currently running 4"susp, 2"body, and 1"shackle and 33swampers. I have a intake that i made out of the intake on a TJ, used to have headers till the collector cracked, but i haven't noticed a difference after switching back to the stock manifold other than it is quieter.

As far as switching to the 4.0 from the 2.5, if i remember correctly the input on the transfercase in the 4.0s and the input on the 2.5s have different spline counts, so you would have to change the transfercases as well. Pretty sure that the driveshaft lengths are different, and if you are going to be changing driveshafts, you might as well get rid of the piece of shit D35c rear axle.

the transfercase thats mated to the AX-5 (5 spd used with 2.5's) is going to be a 21 spline. Your going to need to run the AX-15 which requires a transfercase with a 23 spline input. You can either get a whole new transfercase, or jsut swap input gears.
