Default Speedometer Trouble

was going to school this morning and when i hit around 35 mph the speedo needle flew up to around 75 rapid moving back and forth between 65 and 75 with a loud ass noise. While i was still going around 45 mph. Im guessin either the speedometer cable or the VSS...any ideas? Thanks in advance. Chris
