Default over heating problem

i just recently replaced a valve on my car had all the work done at the machine shop, had the head surface checked everything was fine, i put the car back together, have double checked all the cooling lines/coolant, and everything else i can think of, the first thought that comes to mind when i think over heating is the thermostat, i will be replacing that this afternoon, if anyone else has any other ideas, please let me know
