02 nissan sentra over heating
My girlfriends car is acting kinda weird.
It keeps saying that its over heating, and when i turn the heat on it blows cold air. Its not doing it all the time, like it will be normal then go up and back down to normal. This isnt the first time this has happend. The first time she was just out of coolent. But the car shouldnt be overheating with this cold weather. Im pretty much thinking its either A.) thermostat B.) Radiator is fucked C.) head gasket?
As soon as i find a flash light im going to check the coolent to make sure she has some in there. If not there is probably a leak in one of the lines because i just filled it up about a month ago, and with this cold weather you shouldnt be using any.

You are low on water. Fill it and pressure test it to find the leak. If you can't find a leak, test the cap. If the cap checks out OK, do a carbon monoxide test of the cooling system. This will check the headgasket. Look at the waterpump if you can. There should be a weep hole on it. Inspect the weep hole for old coolant tracking.

Oh, and don't add just water. Add a 50/50 mix of water and antifreeze. With it getting colder diluted antifreeze could allow the cooling system to freeze. Not to mention straight water hurts the cooling system. It allows corrosion to occur inside the system.
