So I have a overheating problem that I can't seem to solve. The car is a 95 Civic Dx, with 220,xxx miles, still has the stock D15b7. The car started to overheat wednesday of last week, so replaced the thermostat, refilled the radiator (since the radiator had drained it self). The car drove fine until today, and then started to over heat again. Once I get home I pop the hood and there is radiator fluid all over the engine bay, I then take the cap off of the radiator, and there is a little circluar piece on the bottom missing ( I think it is the relief valve)which is my guess was why there was fluid every where. So I put on my spare radiator cap, and then refill the radiator again. Let the car heat up and it is fine, so after letting it run for about 15 mins, and it still hasn't over heated, I take it for a test spin. The car drives fine and still isnt overheating. So i decide to check everything out one last time, I pop the hood and the top radiator hose looks like it is inflated, and about to pop, check the temp gauge, and the car is just now starting to over heat. Im mad at this point so decide to go in.

Try burping it! I had this problem with my mustang man..couldn't figure out why it kept overheated! After taking it to a shop..they burped it and i wasted all my money..

Possible it has a heat pocket in it

My wife had the same problem with her 96 honda accord . Her top radiator hose inflated it turned out where her head gasket blew it let exhaust in the hose. So we replaced her motor and the radiator. We replace all her heat sensor and the thermostat.

 

check the bottom side of your oil cap, see if it looks like chocolate milk. if it does, you have a blow head gasket.

 

Yeah i should have said that, the car doesn't have a blown headgasket. I changed to oil today and it looked fine, just dirty. And the compression test was fine also.

 

usually when that upper hose is big and fat like that is an indication of a busted thermostat......you did replace with a brand new thermostat right!? and you installed it correctly right? if all those are true try doing a coolant flush!

 

Yes I replaced it with a new thermostat, and I rechecked it today to make shure it was installed correctly, and it was. I did a coolant flush tonight, so I will post in here tommorrow to let yall know how it drove.
