What vtec head is better, b16, b18, b20z?

Also... what all is involved in putting the vtec head on a non-vtec block?

I didn't think the b20 was V-Tec..

The head the b16/b17/b18c5 uses is the PR3 casting. Now, I think the b18c5 uses a milled head for higher compression than the b16/b17 head. I'm not sure.. but I know the comrpession chamber is smaller in the b18c5 according to http://www.c-speedracing.com/howto/c...c/compcalc.php

Check some more resources to be 100% sure.

The b18c5 head will have better cam profiles, intake manifold, and throttle body than the b16/b17 will.

SEARCH google for LS/VTEC set-ups. They are very simple and yield a decent amount of power.. but you need to supply the head with oil in certain areas for proper function. You might want to consider the non-vtec cranks and a v-tec block.

no...b20 never came vtec.
b16 heads flow better but a gsr head makes more power. a c5 head come slightly port an polished but youll pay more. i had c5 head on my b20. good head...heheh. nothing like good head. hahaha. ack on topic.. the gsr would prolly better for the price.(b18) not to sure about the 17.

You'd be lucky to find an orignal PR3 casting..

The b16 heads do flow more air, but the b18c GS-R head (P72) has a more radical valve angle, which would contribute to better flow of the gases into and out of the cylinders.

The Type-R head has already been ported which you can port futher.. but you have to remember how much material has already been taken away once. A virgin b16 head would be the ideal candidate for a mean port job.
