B20 oe B20 Vtec?
i drive a 94 acura integra and am having problems with the oil pump in my motor, right now i have a b17 block with a b16xsi head and sicne the block is so old im jsut gonna start fresh with a new motor. im thinking about either just throwing a b20 in or using my head and running b20 vtec. what do yall think based on maybe past xperience or friends experiences. pros and cons would be good. thanks for any help i recieve
If you turn a non-VTEC B20 9000 RPM, it won't last long either..... And you'll likely find that the temptation was to turn it more RPM cause it runs good there with the VTEC head.
If you're secure with your manhood, and you want a mild performance level, a stock B20 is going to be fine. In an Integra, the B20 with a B16 transmission would prove to be about Stock GSR performance levels.
If you're quite secure, realize it's not the end all of cars, then the B20 VTEC is going to be very reliable, and make a bit more power. It's also going to cost more $$. First - It needs to be tuned to run properly, and to be safe. Second, you have to include the cost of the conversion kit. Third, it makes more power, so it requires more maintenance, end of story. Performance level on that, would be about equal to a Type R Integra.
You have to be secure enough to know you're not always going to win, and getting behind is no reason to turn it harder to make up for it. Otherwise, you, too, may find that B20/VTEC to be un-reliable....
If you're insecure, I suggest you build the crap out of it, boost it, and screw the reliability. While you're at it, you need to go ahead make it a K-series, cause that'll make more power. And, since you're still not going to compete with some of the faster RWD cars, just sell that Integra, and start with a RWD car that has a lot greater potential to begin with, like a Mustang......
What i wanna know is, how many psi can you run to a stock b20 bottom end with and without a block guard? Ive been looking everywhere and i havent found anything on this forum. I know its probably been asked like 1,000,000 times over.
i am running 10lbs on mine and from what i have read that is "safe" i have seen some as high as 12 or 13 but i dont know how long they lasted. 10 seems to be the magic number.
block guards dont protect your sleeves just keep them from moving but i think 10psi still might be a lil high but with a good tuner and conservitive driving there is no reason that it will be unreliable if you want higher boost stock just go ls or sleeve the b20
i had a b20 on 10psi and it was tuned very conservative to make it run a 12.90at 115 with a super t70 turbo. i drove the piss out of it every day and i put 10,000 miles on it b4 i sold it and never had a problem no smoking or nothing just its all in the tune. i now have a b20vtec set-up which ive been running all motor and ive just recently picked up a turbo kit so now im going boost on 10psi also. its really just all in the tune
