Future Plans for upcoming DragVA meets
not actual bouncers....but even if those getting called out still act like asshats? i've seen it happen. i guess we'll see how things go with the next meet.....good luck redcoat talking with Mac...that band stuff would actually be a great idea....hell i hit up yum yum and china king all the time.
Ok, I have read through the posts and think you guys are on the right track. I would like to make some observations/suggestions on this one as well.
1.) I would try to avoid an open parking lot. The more room people have, the more chance of them doing burnouts and getting into accidents (look at rockville).
2.) The engraved shift knob- great idea
3.) Use the cops for what they get paid for, to enforce peace. Set up a meeting with ffx county police and basically explain to them that you are looking to set up a well behaved meet for kids on friday nights so that they ARENT street racing. Let them know that you would be interested in having a cop around and you will be more than happy to point out the bad seeds and ask them to leave. If you meet with Mac, he can say that a couple of you are his voice of authority to the cop. We pay their salary with our taxes so they should do something FOR us for a change and it will look good for us because we are encouraging safe behavior so they will be less inclined to hit people with exhaust tickets and such.
4.) If this goes well and we can keep it orderly, I would have a couple people call up the tv stations and invite them down. With all the bad media import kids have gotten in the past 3 years, they owe us one to spotlight a responsible meet that is an alternative to street racing.
This is just my .02

Hands down number 3. I was going to recommend that as well. Lets milk FCP and use them. I think 2 cops at the meet would be enough.
Serve and protect right, is that what there little saying is? Well lets actually have them do it for a change.

having cops there is probably not a great idea. most people have illegal exhausts, lowering, nos, etc. i'm pretty sure that cops are forced to take action against these items on modified cars. if they don't - then they're letting you "get away with it". just something to think about before approaching the police.
Here is another idea guys, we could design a ticket and post it up here at DragVA. This ticket would act like an entrance ticket to get in to the meet. If you remember the IMSTAR coupon you had to print out to get $5 off entrance to MIR, it would act like that but with no money, just entrance privilege. Someone could be standing in the entrance and collecting them when you come to the meet. No ticket, no entrance. This way people could still get in for free, it wont cost us money to print out the ticket or make it because we will only design it and post it up here on DragVA and people that want to come have to only spend money on the paper they print it on. I know this wont take away from all the idiots that come to the meets, but it might just cut down on them. I don’t know, just an idea.
Wut about rent-a-cops they use those guys at major events and technically theyre not really cops plus they'll do anythin as long as u pay them. O yea anyone think mayb the dulles expo center is a good idea?
Charity stuff is a good idea. I'd try and avoid doing anything with cash though. The VW community does a few charity things each year where the price of admission is a food item appropriate for a local food bank. It can be as cheap as a can of beans for people to get in. We can contact the local food bank and have them there with a van to collect the night's proceeds.
If this develops further and we get some local tuner shops to chip in, we can actually hold a raffle. 5 food items gets you a raffle ticket for some of the donated swag.
While the raffle might be a bit much for a monthly thing, it could work for once or twice per year.
If the food bank isn't able to provide transport for the donated food, we could get someone with a truck to haul it over to them. I can do the research with the Capitol Area Food Bank if people are interested.
