Default Oil Question

Whats up everyone? I got my bike a few weeks ago and Ive been rideing it quite a bit. Ive already put a little over 1000 miles on it and im starting to wonder about changeing the oil. I dont think its every 3000 like a car but I havent heard anything different. Just wondering how often you guys/girls change yours? What is the average price to do it yourself? I looked on kneedraggers and they were selling quarts for around $10! It takes almost 3.5 to do my bike. Is this just the average price of oil? The bike is a 02 f4i if that makes any diference. Thanks for the help.

its easy and cheap.... you'll need a filter, i'd suggest sticking with OEM Honda, its either the MM9 or the MCJ, they split them up mid year but either should work just fine and they can look up which one by your year, 9.99 i think

i'd use honda's hp4 10w40 semi-synthetic oil or any comparable 10w40 semi-synthetic, silkolene comp 4 comes in a gallon(4 quart) jug... i'd just buy oil from a dealership instead of online but whatever works easiest for you... i do mine every 2,500-3,000, just whenever between there i have a chance

Yeah I was going to get the oil from a dealership but I was just checking the price online. Is there a differnece between motorcycle oil and car oil? I was talking to a guy at work and he just uses synthetic vavoline. Eitherway im going to stick to the stuff made for the bike, lol.

there is a difference... car oil just lubricates the motor, bike oil lubricates the motor, transmission, and clutch plates so it needs different additives, car oils also have different cleaners which are bad for clutch fiber plates... lots of people use car oil with no problem, but lots of people use it and get clutch slippage... theres no price advantage to using car oil so your right to stick with the bike stuff... a gallon of comp 4 is $24.99 so your looking like under 40$ for a semi-syn. oil change w/ filter

i used mobil one fully synthetic mx4t
