Xbox 360 in a car?
this just annoyed me. you want to see a car burn, go outside, stuff a rag in your gas tank, and light it up. dont post if it isnt anything new...i was told that 20 times already...and fuses are used to protect the wiring...not prevent fires. Im sure a hot enough wire would cause a flame, but thats not really the fuses job. Its so when you fuck something up and put too much electrical current into something, the fuse blows, instead of melting the near impossible to replace wire running under your dash. Anyways...back to the relevant posts...
My intverter is a 400 watt now. So you think hardwiring that to one battery would be too much, even if it is used rarely?

Anyway, fuses are in line to protect the wiring from starting on fire. So.... yeah they are there to prevent fires. You don't have to believe me, I was just trying to help.
To power anything other than your cell phone you should run at least an 8 gauge wire to an inverter that is 400 or larger. Make sure you ground as close as possible to the inverter itself (closest metal, as in the metal under the carpet or whatever it may be). OH! And fuse as close to the battery as possible. This will also help prevent you from having a fire if the wire were to be compromised and touch ground. Anyway, GL and good day
10 gauge is fine for an inverter, that will do for up to 45 amps at 20 feet or less. Power inverters are more efficient than things like audio amps, and the power draw is nowhere near as transient. Car audio companies just like to sell you big expensive wire.
10 gauge is a lot nicer to run in a car also, there really isn't a reason to mess with 8 gauge (especially not car audio cable with uselessly thick insulation) for this application.

thanks fabric, and Chad, im a senior at Tech...so i dont have a full time job yet. Im just really good with stuff like that, and have been working on cars for a long time. Just never tackled the 360 in a car...thus my current problem, haha.
i have a 24 ft P30 Step Van (snap on tools truck) that is a mobile sign shop, Houses 10 batteries, that power a 30" plotter, computer, 37in LCD monitor and 20 in monitor ... Basically we meet with the customer, design, produce and install on the job site ... perfect for boat names and store front lettering ... sort of hard to bring those to the office.
