That's what they do for some carputers.

I personally run carPC's in my car. You will run into a huge problem with an XB360 vs a carPC: The draw of the XB360. CarPCs draw something ridiculously low, putting an inverter on your system will put a drain on the whole electrical system. Your best option is to run a dual battery setup, or upgrade your battery, and run the inverter DIRECTLY off the battery. They do have DC/DC connectors, but they require an ATX port on your mobo, and I've never personally opened an XB360.

I bet your carputer can't do graphics rendering like an XB360 though, and that's where most of the power goes. That and the XB360s don't use low power embedded processors because they don't need to (they're not meant for cars really).. So this is really a matter of which is higher performing vs. which is more efficient.

-231321 for a completely irrelevant post. My point was that a previous post was comparing carPCs to running the XB360 in the car. I was stating that there was a serious difference in power consumption and provided him with solutions. The reasons why the power consumption differs is totally irrelevant to the thread.

You def need a bigger inverter. Don't hardwire the one you have with a bigger fuse. The fuse is there to prevent fires. No, not forest fires. CAR FIRES!!! Just spend the 60-70 bucks now and do it right or suffer the end result of your car burning down in flames. Which, would actually be pretty cool to watch (for everyone else) so make sure you at least let everyone know where it'll be at first. But really, don't put it in there. Or just get the proper product. Hope this helps.

this just annoyed me. you want to see a car burn, go outside, stuff a rag in your gas tank, and light it up. dont post if it isnt anything new...i was told that 20 times already...and fuses are used to protect the wiring...not prevent fires. Im sure a hot enough wire would cause a flame, but thats not really the fuses job. Its so when you fuck something up and put too much electrical current into something, the fuse blows, instead of melting the near impossible to replace wire running under your dash. Anyways...back to the relevant posts...

My intverter is a 400 watt now. So you think hardwiring that to one battery would be too much, even if it is used rarely?

I'd hope so, cig lighters aren't fused that high. Every 10 amps at 12V is 120W, so do the math.
