As far as looks: i actually tend to get a lot of glances from people b/c they probably think its modded when in reality its stock ;-). VW reliability has gone up in recent years and i havent had one problem with my car yet. Hope this helps you out some.

edit: if you are looking to buy new, goodluck. the only ones that are left at dealerships are the shitty tiptronic ones. All the 6mt's are gone.
I'm die hard VW, obviously, but lay off with the "VW reliability has gone up" crap.. That's not true. The simplistic aircooled cars were IMO the most reliable. Hell, you still see them on the road untouched from the 50's and 60's. I doubt any modern car will make it that far without spending its life in a garage untouched (50 years from now)

if it was my cash i would go wrx, but the best thing for you to do is to test drive both cars. we can gab on all day and night but nothing will tell you which car fits your driving style more than a test drive would.

Completely depends on the money you have - future wise. Do/are you going to have enough to afford the expenses of a wrx transmission or when a VW breaks?

Go for the most reliable.

The whole "weak WRX transmission" thing is a myth. Yes, the transmission is the weakest part of the WRX drivetrain. But, no, it's not weak. There are several people running close to 400 crank up (myself included) on the stock transmission with no problems whatsoever. Just drive with a little sense and don't abuse it, and you'll be fine. Anything you abuse will break.

im going with the GLI if you want a fun 4door family car...
stock for stock i like the GLI over the WRX because the interior features blow the WRX interior features away...
the exterior of the GLI is sleak and very attractive unlike the wrx...
the 18" BBS RC's compliment the GLI much better than the WRX 15" stockers...
or are they 16's?
either which way...
it all boils down to what you want tho...
if you like the violent launching characteristics of AWD then go with the WRX... if you want an awsome perfomrer, attractive both inside and out, go with the GLI.

Why is it ignorance...because it's HIS opinion about a car HE owns.
