Okay, for example.. last Sunday when I was arrested for speeding, the trooper let me ride in the front of the car and he was really cool. He showed me all of the gadgets in the car on the center control panel. Even prior to that, I've known people who got pulled over with a radar detector getting power but completely out of sight. They don't just pick out random cars and pull them over acting like they know they have radar detectors, and being lucky enough to find out that they do.... They know.

And I've been a AEGIS Fire Controlmen for 7 years, 2 of which I've been TEACHING. Which automatically puts me about 27 years ahead of anyone in the Chair Force.

Everything radiates some sort of signal, however slight it may or may not be. It's just a matter of filtering out the other shit and concentrating on that known bandwidth...when it's detected, you're fucked.

You can detect a detector even when it's turned off? Are you serious?

I think it would be logical to detect it when it's turned off, provided it is attached to a power source. I may be wrong about that, but the way I see it is that it's still generating a frequency that could be detected if it's turned off and powered up... just like your household appliances draw electricity when they're plugged up but not turned on--however little it may be, they still use electricity. Maybe someone else can confirm that.

Once I got pulled over for what I thought was no reason. I was going 47 in a 45, and the State Trooper asked me for my license, regisration and radar detector. He took the serial # off of the radar detector and gave it back. I can't seem to remember if it was on or not, but it was plugged in.

Damn...sorry to hear that God I hate this state when it comes to traffic violations. I have friends in other states who've gotten pulled over doing 130+, and all it is is a 4 or 5 point ticket. No jail, no reckless driving BS, nada. Just at ticket and a bunch of points.

Also keep in mind though that cops often figure out you have a detector because they turn it on, and all of a sudden you slam on your brakes. Could be coincidence, but most times it's not. They're assuming, and it's a bluff more or less. Depending on how bold you are, you can insist you don't have one, and deny him the right to search. If he can't find it, he can't ticket you for it. But the catch is, he CAN ask to bring a K-9 unit, and those things will bark at ANYTHING, at which point he's got probably cause to search the vehicle. That's not to mention the dog jumps up all over your car, w/ its claws/nails, and scratches the hell out of the panels. Good luck trying to get the county to pay for the damages, b/c according to them, "it'll buff right out"

IF the K-9 unit doesn't arrive within 15 - 20 minutes (I forget the time limit in the state of VA), you're free to go. Cops have a limited amount of time for which they can hold you on the side of the road. After that period, they must either issue a citation, arrest you, or you're free to go. Which one it'll be would depend on your attitude and luck, in that order lol.

^^^ What drives VA lawmakers to such BS? We are a very small state in terms of population. You'd think that our lawmaking officials are from the 1700s and think that speeding is the work of the devil or some evil force the way they put all these restrictions on everything. All our neighboring states are so much more leinant on driving laws.

I'll tell you why: cuz it brings in $$$$. And LOTS of it. Heck, they made TWENTY MILLION off of the red light cameras ALONE. In fact, they generate SO much money off of tickets, that the Fairfax County General District Court is now undergoing a 94.5 MILLION dollar renovation & expansion, so they can process even MORE tickets faster and more efficiently. I wonder where they got THAT money from in the first place I mean, c'mon...where else do you pay a court fee - that's MORE expensive than the ticket many times - EVEN WHEN YOU PREPAY AND DON'T GO TO COURT? Don't get me started man.

The bottom line is, the guys at the top are corrupt as hell, and are getting rich off of it. Ditto with zoning laws, which is why the DC area (mainly NoVa) was ranked number ONE for worst traffic in the NATION, beating LA traffic!! The developers bribed the county to let them build w/o expanding, and exceed the maximum zone capacities. That's why our roads are overflooded, and definitely not wide enough.

Long story short, until Virginians stand up and demand change from their representatives, we'll continue to pay this unofficial tax, and their wallets will continue to get fatter.
