VA Radar Detectors - who runs one?
I'm curious as to how many people have had issues with VA Police either writing a ticket or confiscating your detector. If you've got a good story behind it, I'm all ears
They can'nt confiscate it. Usually they will take it from you during the traffic stop, but only to write the serial number on the summons. It should be returned to you with your summons. They are illegal even if they are off in Va, they only have to be accessable to a power source.
If you are dumb enough you will be caught. Have a little common sense and pay attention and you wont have any probs. But it is also NOT an excuse to speed. They do what they should in traffic....but if you are all by yourself...your screwed.

I'm also sporting a V1 and yes it is nice to know which direction the radar is coming from.
The reason I started this thread was to learn a little more about what a cop will do if he/she catches you with one. I had heard confiscation (thanks for the clarification Blah), and this worried me because my V1 ain't cheap. I'm also trying to figure out a better stealth rig for the the control unit - right now those suction cups on the windshield are a dead giveaway. I can make a clip to have the detector connect to my headliner, but I'm trying to figure out the best way to make a black plastic box that isn't a dead giveaway as a radar detector.
Something kinda like this:
