because again, there is a reason they're not one of the more popular platforms for tuning. i'd probably have to say it's more that most people aren't familiar with working on the mid-engine layout, but there's more to it than that, i'm sure. i guess from what i can gather is that they're cool cars and all, and mr2 2nr (josh i think his name is) has pulled a shitload of power out of the 3s-gte so you know it can be done, but i never did see what time that car ran in the 1/4 mile. i can honestly say i've never even heard of an mr2 that ran any faster than a high 12- now i'm not saying they don't exist, i'm sure they do, i just have personally never seen this feat... and that's actually kind of saying a lot because like i said i've been exposed to the scene for a while. and to my knowledge they're not really known to be stellar track performers either... at least not compared to your typical miata/3-series/itr etc... i just haven't really heard much as to how their handling characteristics hold up compared to the more popular track cars out there.

plus, i liked them too a while ago- was considering purchasing one, test drove it, just didn't like it. felt really sluggish compared to some of the other turbo cars out there, and i just really didn't like the feel of it. could be just me.

but don't let me influence you. if you like mr2's then by all means go find one.

When you go look, check for:

60K maint receipt,
120K maint receipt,
no dents in the oil pan,
no cel's,
active exhaust works,
active suspension works,
active aerodynamics works.

Damn right Actually my RX7s NA, been my highly abused daily for over 4 months now, revved to 8k every chance I get and I haven't done anything other than easy maintanence (fuel filter/plugs/wires/motor mounts/TPS/clutch/brakes/tires). Best part? Your parts don't cost shit and parts cars are everywhere. They're also easy as hell to work on and love to be driven hard. Gas mileage is horrible but it takes 87 like a champ Nothing more than a toy to me. My Stealth R/T was NA too but did that stop it from breaking? No.

This is the preventive maintanence list for those cars, those are the things you should be looking at replacing. If you want to buy one and rebuild it right away then go for it. They're great cars if you want a damn near exotic looking car that can haul ass and still has cool features like active aero, digital climate control, electronically controlled suspension, etc. etc. Truth is they came with a lot of gizmos back in the day and being almost 20 years old they are starting to fail and become a PITA. I'd look for a newer one if you want one that badly. You're lucky to find one thats been taken care of right. Its just my opinion from owning my Stealth and my friends 3000GT (went through 2 motors) and posting daily on 3si for 2 years. I guess if you think I'm just bitching about my bad luck go search on 3SI, lots of good info there.

wow thats a big rack of bullshit there. best is high 12s??? For 4k the car will make 320-330whp and run very low 12 and on racegas 11s. Plus the 60fts they cut are amazing, 1.6s on all seasons.
You sure do talk alot but don't actually seem to know too much about the cars.
Theres also quite a large option of aftermarket parts for them for a car that is relatively rare compared to most other shit.

good price but I would pass on it simply because of the car that it is...hard to work on and well a mitsu (not a mitsu fan, more of a hater).

I'd hold off for the mr2 personally.
I'm a Subaru and Toyota guy so I'm really biased

Go vr4 because i want an mr2 and with more people looking there will be less to pick from. But for real if you havent driven an mr2 do before you buy anything else, they are all around great cars. Handle great no matter what generation you get. I have owned a Mk1 and an mk2 they are both great cars and have great engines. Just test drive the two and see which you like better.

There were never a LOT of MR2s made. That's why they may not appear to be "popular platforms" to you.
