Oh and as far as GTO-GT500, I can assure you a GT500 inside is not going to be anything any greater than a standard GT with some badging.
And you think GTOs have superb interiors? I test drove one a while ago, they're nice cars, the interior is about as plain jane as you can get though. I have to give the interior design to the stang.

A local board member ordered an '06 and paid a little over $42K with the Z51 package. If you want a Vette for under $50K it can easliy be had and even the base is not that much of a stripper. It looks to have more "features" than a base GT 500.

Not too bad for the base.
you might be able to get a base c6 for near msrp NOW, but you sure as hell couldnt when it first came out, just like the cobras now. Over time, their price will drop as well. Its hardly fair to compare the price now of a vette to the price of a not yet released cobra.

This, was copy and pasted right from the article you supplied:
"Ford has not made an official announcement to the general public on the MSRP of the 2007 Shelby GT500 but they have released pricing to dealers who intern have posted the MSRP to several websites arcross the net."
Your arguement doesn't hold up well. That's not even an official claim yet, just an estimate.
Also, I never once said a C6 couldn't be had for that. All I said ws that it was as common as flying pigs. Who'd special order a stripped 'vette anyways?
Sure maybe some of the dealers around here tried to mark them up but a '05 C6 could be had at or below MSRP with not too much problem. My father had an order in for a C6 Vert for $1500 below MSRP before they were release. And no he did not know anyone special, just called up a volume dealer and made an order.
With the production volume of the GT500 I think it will take a while for that to happen. Even when it does it is still going to be in the price range of a base Vette which should make them comparable to someone looking to spend $45K on a performance car

no YOU were talking about the gt500 in the sentence right before:

Comparing GTO's to Cobra's styling is really no comparison. A Cobra looks a lot meaner, and can be made pretty quick for cheap. However for a DD a GTO is greater than a Cobra anyday of the week.
