Default weird thermostat problem?

my car, during the winter seems to cool down after its heated. like if i drive it around, the temperature cools back down after my engine has been warmed up. like, i set my heater on high and my vents blow out somewhat warm air. and when i stop, the thermostat goes up and the air gets warmer, but i drive around some more and it goes right back down again. it is very annoying during the winter. someone had this problem before? i drive a 97 Eclipse GS

Sounds like your thermostat is stuck partially or all the way open. If it's not regulating temperature correctly, that's the first and cheapest thing to check. I've had that happen to 2 of my cars, and the symptoms are always the same. It makes it seems like the cooling system is super efficient because the thermostat is bypassing out to the radiator whether it needs to or not.. They're usually easy to replace, although getting access to that area on some cars is hard..

i had that same problem on one of my cars, i thought it was due to the cold air induction... but later i found out that I did not even have a thermostat in there, apparently the previous owner was to cheap to replace a broken one, so they just got rid of it all together.... I would start with the thermostat first though, it is about the cheapest fix, and will not fall under that lame quote "if it aint broke, don't fix it"... you can't go wrong putting in a new one. But while you are doing it, go ahead and see what temp ranges they offer, and get one that runs cooler than stock since ur gunna be in there already.

A Stant 192/195 runs 9 bucks at advance (stock replacement)... and i believe you can use a ford 165 or 180 in there also.
