Default speedometer problems?? help??

my speedometer out of my 92 hatch from time to time with just sporatically work. some days it will work off and on. it will for a good 5 minutes or so, or sometimes even more, that the needle will just drop str8 to 0 mph. i dont think its a loose connection, ive taken it out and checked it out, does anyone know what else would cause this problem or even a good suggestion as of where to take the car to get it fixed.

sounds liek you have a speed sensor dropping out...its in the back of the speedo head. common problem with early civics....i usually replace the whole speedo head..but you may be able to get the sensor from Honda....

usually...you can get the diag procedure in any chiltons manual...you'll need a DMM to test it..or, just replace it...unless you are having a power, or ground intermittently keelin over, that is the problem. but yeah...dealership for new, wreckin yard for used

the sensor is in the head.....the cable comes in to the back of the speedo...runs the sensor/and the speedo. your check engine light is probly on too, when this happens
