i dont either but i work in the shop so i have the ability to evacuate the proper way any time but i know alot of guys dont.....
the best way is to have it done properly...

step 1: stick a screwdriver on the valve and let all the freon out

step 2: rip everything out that looks like it deals with ac

just rip that bitch out and let the refrigerant out into the air. no sense in taking it to a shop to get it drawn out. i don't have ac and its not that bad. just cruise with the windows down
