Default removing paint

i have a set of acura rims and two of them are painted black, i dont want to paint the other ones and i like the stock color. what could i use to get the paint off of them without hurting the rims. i dont want to sand them and get them scratched all up. a guy at advance auto parts told me something that starts with a p and has 13 in the name and said i have to order it online does anyone know what that stuff is or anything i can pick up locally to remove the paint?

Simple Green undiluted will strip the shit out of uncatalysed paint like spray paint. It will take off automotive paint too, be careful. Try it, it may work for what you need.

I think Target has it, I don't remember where I got it. I don't use it very much because you have to dilute it to do just about anything with it because it's so f'n concentrated. Pick up some cheap sponges also, they'll help get the paint off once it gets softened up.

LOL. How were they painted? Spray paint, sprayed then cured? or were they powdercoated?

If they were spray painted, it should have worked, unless you bought "mean green ."

Yeah, they must be powdercoated if Simple Green isn't touching it. If they're powdercoated you're screwed because there isn't a chemical method to get the powdercoat off, and if they were prepared properly for powdercoating then they were sandblasted. So if you get the powdercoat off you'll just be left with a sandblasted rim. Sorry. Trade them to someone for some untouched rims..
If for some reason they actually are painted, and the Simple Green isn't working, you could try a strong solvent like Toluene. Wear gloves and eye protection. If Simple Green isn't working, and they're painted, it's some kind of paint that lacquer thinner won't touch most likely, which is why the toluene might work.

I hit a small spot on the back of a hood with Simple Green once, I needed to clean it to make a mold off of it. The paint started lifting and came right off on a rag as soon as I touched it. It's powerful shit.
