Default question about amp wattage

im not sure which forum to post this in so im posting it in two.. whichever one isnt in the suitable forum please delete it.

10in sub = 250W peak.. i have 2 of them

if i get an amp to power these to the max do i get a 500W amp to power the combined wattage of the subs.. or a 250W amp to power the peak of one sub?

im thinking i get a 250W for them.. and if i bridge them to get a 500W.. but im not sure.. someone please help me.. i dont want to fuck up my subs by pushing too much power to them..

A dual channel 300-400 watt amp should do fine.

The peak rating is what the subs can handle at one particular point for a very short period of time before the blow up or the coil burns up, sort of like like a signal spike. Look for the RMS rating and try to get an amp that can deliver that rated amount of power. If you're planing on using a 2 channel amp in stereo mode make sure the amp can deliver the rated amount per channel, if using it as a mono amp then make sure it can deliver that same amount (rating on 1 sub) when bridged. The rated power for the amp is determined by the way you'll run the subs, stereo or mono(1 or 2 channels). Hope that makes sense.
