Default Problem starting

Hey guys,
We just picked up an old 1995 Chevy Astro Van for a rolling advertisement.

Any how, it has a problem starting. Just cranks and cranks until I put some starter fluid in it and then she fires up. When it is running it runs rough! Full throttle it just makes noise but doesnt go anywhere. Half throttle driving is normal with occasional back fire from intake.

-Changed spark plugs
-Gas filter
-MAP Sensor

All with no result.

Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Check the throttle position sensor, and check the timing. If you're getting backfires, that means either you have a mechanical timing problem or you have a sensor problem that is causing the ECU to really retard the timing. There are actually a couple of things that it could be, but the backfiring narrows down the field quite a bit.

I've never touched an Astro before, so I can just give general theory and advice, not really specifics. If you're lucky then you'll be dealing with a stock engine setup, instead of something that someone has screwed around with trying to fix and and made things worse.
