No one can tell me the truth bout short shifters..

The b16 trany has shorter gears due to the engine design, the powerband is in higher in the RPM range. Using the shorter gears keeps the motor in the powerband (SEE: Gear Percentage Drop on Honda-Tech forums). Several people, including myself, have been researching Honda transmissions and their gears to 'frankenstein' a transimission to suite thier enginer build (design). N/A apps. seem to work well with tight gears, turbo apps. tend to have more of a punch (boost) and much more torque than N/A apps., longers gears help keep that torque on the ground.
The best option would be to find a cable b16, or the rare 2g GSR YS1 LSD trany (limited availability in Japan). Using a newer trany would cost some extra money, but you could always convert to Hrydo. Another way is to do some research and take a YS1 case (LS) and swap the gears around to match your build. Tire/wheel size also come in to the equation when you are looking for the best balance of top speed and acceleration.
Honda-Tech.com has pretty much all the info you will need.. SEARCH first, they hate having to discuss the same thing over and over on that site. They are also more stringent with their rules over there.

Everyone I know who has tried to build a LS has almost immediately gotten rid of their LS tranny. I don't think this guy is gonna try to break any land speed records so he won't need higher gears. If he having trouble spinning then he should look into a LSD.

Oh, believe me. I Will have LSD.
I like the GS-R's gear ratios. Not too short; not too long. Third gear is perfect and with LSD is awesome. You can try my car if you want since is pretty much that setup. (if it's not too rice for you) LOL

Im sick as crap right now...no need to get you sick!
If you have to stay with a cable trans, i would get a YS1 LS transmission and a GSR hydrolic transmission and swap internals. Then you can sell the now hydrolic LS transmission.
do not keep the LS for any reason. go to HT and see how many people in the drag racing forum keep an LS in the car.
