Default ITR motor in an EG/EK HB

I was wondering what the advantages would be of putting an ITR motor over a H22 in an EG/EK HB. What all is needed besides the normal engine swap components(ie. tranny, ecu, axles, shift linkage, alternator, etc etc)? Or would you just put a different motor in there to begin with and not mess with either one of these. How would I go about setting up the engine mounts so that the motor fits properly and would there be enough room for one to fit. I have seen plenty of LS/vtec and GSR motors in a HB but dont know if the ITR motor is any bigger, but i do know they are the same motor essentially just different internal components. Any suggestions as how to go about the whole process and if you have any places that are reputable for good motors would help me alot. Thanks and i am sure this question has been asked a million times.

H22=more weight in a less than ideal place.

I have seen several videos of hatches racing with each engine. c5 owned the h22 in every one, especially up top.

I have heard many negative things about the h22 in a hatch mainly that you loose most of you steering and stuff like that since it is a very heavy motor, and it goes along with what wrxracer said. that is why i was considering the R. I wasnt looking to blow a c5 right out of the box with just the swap, just looking for something with more power than stock. Does anyone know of a reputable place that sells complete motors for a good price. And would the R swap just be like swapping an LS/vtec

I've got an R in my cx hatch...the only experience I had with an H22 is with a 'lude I raced, but I'm so much lighter that its really not a good basis to judge...I would still go with the R though...so much fun!!

The swap would be basically same as the LS/VTEC. The only major difference is the wiring depending opon the electronics. (OBD1, OBD2)

i would go with jdmhondaparts.com ...thats where i get mine from, and they are always in good condition and definately more complete than ive seen other people get. they even give you stuff you might not neccessarily need, but they definately give you everything you do need.

The H22A swap is a great platform to start with if you ask me. Plan on puttin a little bit of money into the suspension as well though. The motor is a little bit heavier, but can be corrected from a handling perspective with an ideal suspension setup. The only negative I see is the fact that once you install the H series motor you can't go back to D or B series motors with extensive work.

Just to clear one thing up, for gen4H22A and wld3rde, when he referred to a c5, he wasnt referring to a Vette. He was referring to a b18c5, which is the engine code of the ITR motor. I say stick with the ITR motor. And yes it will fit. You say youve seen LS motors in hatches right? The LS motor actually has the most displacement of the 3 1.8Litre blocks.
