The issue i'm having is that i cant put my transmission into reverse with the car on or off. It worked fine yesterday evening when I left a friends house but when I got home a hr later it wouldn't go into reverse. When I try to put it into gear it doesn't grind or anything. I'm trying to figure out what could cause this so i could try to resolve this problem without having to take the car to a transmission shop.

Check that you haven't lost an engine mount bolt, check that the shift linkage is properly secured and not missing anything, check to see if the clutch is disengaging, check to see if the fluid level is fine. If all those check out, you're probably going to have to go inside the trans.

Linkage is all on correctly, and i'm not missing any mount bolts. Haven't checked the fluid lvl yet do to all the snow we just got. If the clutch wasn't disengaging wouldn't i have problem getting into all the other gears, and shouldn't i be able to put it into reverse with the car not running seeing that I can put it into any gear with the car not running?

Oh... So reverse is the only gear you're having problems with? I'd say any of the above things would still apply, except for the clutch.
