The bolts that hold those in always get rusted/frozen into the LCA bushings. Someone tried to remove the bolt to take the suspension off, broke the bolt, then had someone try to blow the bolt out with an acetlyne torch...most likely. I've had to deal with that a couple of times and it's a bitch. Not much you can do to save that strut now.

Oh yeah, and the squealing could be a few things but the first thing i'd check would to be to make sure the rear caliper is not frozen and got the pads clamped down tight on the rotor. Remember, those aren't push in calipers - they are twist in FYI.

well, what im planning on doing to the strut is dremel thatnut off and make it flush, drill out the remaining crap in the strut, primer and paint the bitch to stop rusting and use some new metric oem hardware.

as far as the grinding is concerned, it doesnt do it ALL the time. its a timed thing. the only thing i can really think of to compare it to is imagine your feet make a grinding metal noise when you walk, and as you walk (drive) faster, it gets faster. it doesnt stop when i press the brake. the brakes dont squeal. its just that awful grinding metal noise. im gonna try bending back the dust shield when i get back in town on monday. see how that works out.

yeah, could definitely be a dust shield if it increases with the increase in the rate of speed the rotor is turning. It's one of those things you just have to look at and check everything over to figure out. Not much there to cause the problem but it could be one of many things.

I had that problem on my Integra. I just needed new pads as mine were beyond "done". I went ahead and got new rotors, too, because they were destroyed.
