Question Grinding sound

When i was taking my mom to the ford collision factory, i noticed for the first time, a grinding sound when im accelerating. And for the jokester's, i'm not grindin' the clutch. I put it into first, and it's fine, as is 2nd, but once i accelerate in 2nd gear, it sound's like something's grinding. When i'm at a light, and at neutral, i feel near the pedals a shaking feeling. I don't know what the hell it is, but it scares me, anyone know what's up?? this is in a '95 teg btw. I haven't had time to check it because i'm on my way to work, i'll look tomorrow.

I'm thinking that it may be my shifter, because it sounds like it's vibrating against something, maybe the heat shield? I've heard these type's of problems with short shifter's, but i don't have a short shifter. any insight now, or remedies to this problem?

If anyone else has this problem, it can be solved by removing the heat sheild that cover's the muffler. Thank goodness.
