i have a almost all stock 97 civic EX....we all kno this is Vtec and i was wondering if i could swap the ECU with one out aof a faster civic or even an integra....iuno lets say like a SI civic or a LS or GS-R integra.....would that even work right or would it just fuck my motor up??? so if you can do ne thing with the ECU can you help me out and reply to this post....

if you swap an ls ecu it wont work, no vtec.........and i personally think it would be pointless because the si's, and gsr ecu's have different fuel maps,and unless you have something to control fuel delivery the car would just be slower.....

 

u can as long as its sohc vtec to sohc vtec

 

Just go on ebay and get one of those 30 dollar "Skunk2" chips.. Then you will be floating the valves in no time.

 

OBD2 (97) chips don't really exist; can't be done really. Yet.

Don't bother swapping ECUs, the ECU needs to be retuned, and don't waste your time if you're pretty much stock. ECUs from other cars have different parameters and maps, and will tend to self-tune themselves to run your engine like stock, because that's what they are supposed to do.

The short answer is no.

The long answer is don't bother until you get some performance adding stuff that will benefit from a tuned ECU..

 

so is there ne thing taht can be done for my 97 VTEC...you cant chip it or nothing like that or reprogram my VTEC or something? i really dont know about that ECUs and all the codes and shit....i just wanted to go faster....and get as much out of it as possible with out hurting it.....b/c i kno when cars come from the factory taht they r so lowly tuned that they arent even performing like they need to be......?

You could get an ODB2 to OBD1 adapter harness and use an OBD1 (82-95) ECU, which can be tuned quite a bit. But really I'd save your money and get some bolt-ons first, which will give you a lot more power than a tuned ECU on a stock engine will..
