b20 vtec
There's a saying that, "All the power is in the head" So with that...what you choose to do to the head is going to determine how much power you make, for the most part. There are always varables.
As far as the rod to stroke ratio...I wouldn't focus too much on it. Yes it is true that lower rod ratios do not like to rev sky high on stock rods, but that is easily fixed with a set of forged rods. It's also true that higher piston speeds cause more wear n tear. But lower rod ratios do have there advantages like higher torque with lower RPMs. Playing with rod ratios is something that you should leave alone if you do not understand they're cause and effects.

why are people doing b20 swaps? Aren't they only rated at 126hp/122tq non-vtech, and 146hp/133tq v-tech? Just wondering why not go for the b18c1? The b18c1 weighs less also right?
Correct me if I'm wrong... I'm sure there's some advantage to it.. i'm just ignorant to it.

It really depends on the build. A 84mm+ bore (B20 or sleeved B18C) with a 89mm crank (B20 or LS) with some forged piston (11.5:1 + cr) and forged rods with a real ported vtec head, upgraded valvetrain, some stage 2+ cams, an ITR intake manifold, a 65mm+ throttlebody, 310/320cc injectors, a half way decent header, and an AEM/Hondata/Crome could get you 220whp & 150lbs.
Thats 260 flywheel hp compared to a 160 or 175 of average stock vtec motors.

So just dropping the forged pistons and rods in....
Then the built b16 vtec head... a little air and fuel.... that's it?
I'm with ya now.... People go b20 just for building purposes....
Just curious, what all is involved in the b16 vtec head? just the pistons/rods and the bottom end can handle those high rpms right?
Another question... on a b18b block, you can't do the b18c1 vtec head on it without doing some bottom work end can you?
What about the b16 vtec head on the b20 non-vtec motor? Also... is there a power difference between the b16 vtec head on the b20 non vtec motor vs the b20 vtec motor?
