I have a 97 honda civic with a automatic trans. the trans slips in 1st gear when the car is warm. So I have to shift it manually but after 1st gear, it does, fine. it also shifts into overdrive funny if I accelerate harder then usual.


any ideas guys?

Start byu cleaning your solinoids and flushing your transmission. If that does not fix it you most likley will need internal transmission work. let me know if I can be of service.

 

I'm trying to figure out how shifting it manually fixes the tranny slipping in 1st gear, but it sounds like overall you have an automatic Honda transmission in all it's plastic glory.

You need a new one. It's cheaper and easier than a rebuild.
