Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone has ever heard of or done an auto to manual conversion on a 1996 Ford Explorer. I've got a friend who wants to after I did mine on my civic.

bro ive done it on every explorer ive had usually my first mod sometimes i swap out the stock gas pedal for a footprint pedal too but usually just do the tranny swap and call it a day

I've done it to an Explorer.. not hard at all for the 2nd Gen. As long as it's the V6, just go find any 5 speed (M5OD) Ranger at the junkyard and jack the trans, driveshafts, GEM and ECU. It's all bolt up except for the hole you have to cut in the floor for the shifter.

As far as buying one, pretty much every 2 door was manual and like stated above, cheap and easy to find.. The 4 door 5 speed is very rare and if you plan on turning it into a crawler is really the only reason for doing the swap.
