Need some help Diagnosing my Taco
1996 Totota tacoma,
4wd V6
Background, I just moved here from NY about 2 months ago. So I dont know any reputable shops around the area. I want someone who is good at diagnosing cars. I have little I can do, Its OBD2 and I dont have a scan tool to get valuable information. Any help would be great
About a month ago, it through a check engine light. No symptoms, just erased the code, and it stayed off till 2 days ago.
Then today on the highway i came to a stop and they engine idles at 3500rpms. Even if i kept the clutch in.
Checked the codes its throwing 3
*P0110 Intake air temp circuit malfunction.
*P0120 TPS/ Petal position sensor. Sensor A Ciruit Malfunction.
*P0510 Closed Throttle Postion Switch
I cleaned the throttle body, (incase the butterfly was getting hung up due to carbon build up.
I tried a autozone tps. - Didn't help.
Tried a Mass Airflow sensor that was said to be good. - Did nothing.
I was told to check my grounds, I bought a grounding kit. - Did nothing
I took the truck to toyota, they said that they wanted to do the following
1. Induction service -$150
2. TPS.- $200
3. Mass Air flow sensor.- $800

Re: Need some help Diagnosing my Taco
This is the 3.4L right? My guess would be the MAF or tps sensor. Try cleaning out the MAF really good and take the tps sensor back to autozone and see if another one will fix it.
You might want to check around on the ttora forums. There are guys out there that will probably give you better advice then on here.
Oh, and welcome to Va. What part of the state are you living in?

the snorkel looks new... is it?
I have heard of problems on Gen. 1 Tacos getting too much air with snorkels... Not real familiar with them or the 3.4 so it could be hearsay. Like he sais though TTORA is informative and alot of people know thier shit but theres a ton of assholes so make sure you use the search fucntion first otherwise theres nothing but flaming and nobody helps.

Re: Need some help Diagnosing my Taco
I'm with coot and taco on that one.
Just throwing this out there but, did these problems start after you installed your snorkle? It would kick the idle up if the MAF isn't reading correctly. Possiable air leak or something. I'd also pick up a haynes or helms book for calibrating the TPS
