Two questions; What size tires are you going to run? What motor (horsepower)?

An 8.8 from an Explorer will let you run 38-inch tires and 400-horsepower.
It is a stronger axle than the D-44. There is not as much aftermarket support as the 9-inch. But you can get plenty of parts and support. These axles are extremely plentiful right now due to the cash for clunkers.

If you install extended radius arms, modify the shock mounts and disconnect the sway bar you can get a bunch of extra suspension travel on your existing front axle.

that is very true what he said about the travel on the ttb suspension. if it was me, id look for a high pinion 9 in and a 44. but the 8.8 can be a tough ass axle esp with moser axles installed

well my only concern is that when i put bigger tires and more lift with the stock front ttb suspenion is that the tires are goin to end up kicking out or having alot of negative camber. thats why i want to swap out with a straight axel up front.
