As the person I quoted said though, choose your path yourself and take it.
good luck with schooling man, you will need it
i graduated from NADC in 00, and now (at 23) i have my own shop, averaging about 55k a year (but also keep in mind that our rate is only 40/hr, this area is lower costs) but the key thing is that i LOVE what i do. i wake up every morning, shit shave shower and go to work, loving every minute of it. if you love what you do, its not a job. so i guess i havent worked a day in five years
pay attention to every thing you see, if you go one day without learning something, it was a day wasted. you better be decent at wiring, or you will need to be when you are done, cause 75% of work on anything anymore is all electronic. and listen to some of the older guys.....they know what they are talking about (most of them at least)
some people may say that 50k a year isnt dick. they are right. in my area, 50k/year is pretty damn good, its about the same as 75-90k in other more populated areas. there are some sacrifices that you will have to make (namely the large amounts of dough you will spend on tools and equipment, i have 54k in tools over a five year period
) and dealing with all the rich assholes that think just cause they make 100k+/year, they are better then you cause you are merely a "grease monkey"
but you can control how their car runs

amen
im pretty sure he is gettin a real education by goin to UTI....im at wyotech myself. Lincoln Tech is a major joke though! but about this money thing...u can make a damn good living doin something u love to do. Not sittin behind a desk afraid to get ur yuppie hands dirty. In nova, if ur good 90K to 100K is not unheard of for a tech... the techs at Rosenthal Jaguar were pullin in 115K last year... not gonna get that right out of school but many pepole come out and make 40K ayear then move up after a few years....but i know many people that get a "real education" and come out struggling for a job or not knowin what they want to do or work for 12$ an hr for the first 8 yrs ofworkin....i just get tired of hearing about this "real education" shit.....im leavin WYO with an associates degree in buisness management after takin my core auto tech and a 3 month buisness class...yeah u have to bust ur ass being in class from 7AM to 4:15PM but fuck all that 2 and 4 yr college shit. Plus employers are knockin at our doors up here tryin to get us to sign and ive only been here for 8 weeks!...Not knockin college but yet dont knock what we do!
Im enrolled at the PA campus in september. Im looking forward to it i hear its f**king awsome from students that went their and graduated. i would go 2 college if i had the GPA to go somewhere decent but even if i did id rather wrench around on a car making $55k a year than sit in a cubical making $100k a year pushing paper around answering 2 bill lumber everyday. thats just bullshit
