I used to want to be a tech at one time myself. I decided to keep it a hobby vs. a career. I enjoy working on mine and my buddies cars.

I'm 25, and i'll be happy with my $45K salary, atleast till i'm done with college. I can't really ask for more from a job where my daily routine consists of finding creative ways to waste........i mean use company time and catching up on sleep.

no 45k is definately great...but 53k will not let you live comfortably with 2 kids and a wife to support...

53k would be awesome if you were alone, then you could live pretty nicely...but soon as you start paying for other people, you need to at least double that to live in this area (fairfax, falls church, arlington)

True to that, Between my day job and some side work, i made a little over 50K last year. With that said, thats enough for me to live comfortably....thats about it. To comfortably raise a family here in Nova, you really need about a six figure household income.

shit u were low balled at 53k.. i just graduated NTI (nascar version of uti)

too put it lightly right out of school i had a tampa florida dealer fly me to tampa put me up in a hotel, got me a rental the whole deal, then turned around and offered me 700+ a week JUST to start off. (3) of the 10 techs their averaged over 80K last year alone

then here in va beach i have been talking to abacus racing and the money might even be better here to run their 3 car race program
so either way uti is a real education and anyone who says different can put extra mayo on my burger when i pull thru their drive thru window... anyways good luck with it and make it work for u

Do those of you that currently go there love it? I was looking at going but have heard mixed reviews from friends.

UTI exton...hmmm...went there half the kids in my class dropped out...you get no certifications and half the dealerships around there wont hire kids from there becasue "they are book smart" you sit in a classroom and listen to a techer read word for word from a note book that they give you when you start....if thats your thing go for it....
