Default Anyone got off a reckless without a lawyer?

I just moved here last week and had just picked my car up from the BMW dealership. I was coming down rt 29 and got in the right turn lane because I thought I was at Fairfax Circle. Well it was the wrong street so I put my left turn signal on and when the light turned green I gunned it to get ahead of the the cars next to me. Some jackass in the far left lane thought I was trying to race him so he speeds up and then a cop coming the other way throws his lights on and makes a uturn. Pulls me over and asks me who the other guy was. Told him I was not paying attention to the other guy and had no idea who he was. I assumed he thought we were racing. I told him that I was not racing and why I was "accelerating at a high rate of speed." So anyways I figured he would give me a ticket for improper lane change or speeding. But he gives me a ticket for reckless driving, general reckless with no speed noted.

So anyways has anyone gone to court and fought it without an attorney? Or spoken with the prosecutor to get it reduced??

I dont have a VA license or VA plates if that makes a difference.

thanks

BTW if the officer thought we were racing I wonder why he didnt pull us both over and just me??? The guy who sped up when I came through the intersection was behind me and the cop passed him to pull me over.

yep...couple months ago in fairfax county. i got a 62 in a 35 dropped to speeding. my record in worse than you could possibly imagine but that's the first time i've been pulled over in a couple years so..... good luck. let me know if there's any more info you want. a lawyer will charge you out the ass if it's a good one. if you don't pay more than a grand then you might as well save your money cause you'll do just as good by yourself. no lie

You prolly wont win the case in Fairfax county w/o a lawyer, I lost in district court for a wreckless then appealed and came back with a lawyer and won in Circit Court. Get a laywer.

i went to ffx county court on friday, and the commonwealth attourney wouldn't speak to anyone unless they were a lawyer. also, the judge didn't care one way or another if you had the best explanation in the world, he wouldn't drop a charge. if you have a clean record though you should be okay. if you really dont want this reckless on your record, then you should get a lawyer. remember, this is not juvi court.
