Yeah 600cc bikes are pretty good 1st bike, also the 250cc bikes are real light and cheap as hell, very good 1st timer bikes.

get 96-98 honda cbr or something. Not bad price. So if you lay it down. Its not that expensive to fix and you didnt just drop 6k+ on new bike.

If you really do weigh in at 130 please DON'T get a 600!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You need to be thinking about a Ninja 250. If you just HAVE to have a 600 don't get anything other than a Katana; we don't need another wreck out there on the streets!!!!!!!!!!!! (this is just my opinion; I've only been riding for 12 years.........what would I know?)

After you've spent a summer riding around on the 250 you can then get whatever you feel like getting 'cause you will have mastered riding a bike. Plus picking up a brand new Ninja 250 only costs 3k; and used ones are very abundant and cheap!!!!

Whatever you do, just don't buy something that's over your head because you want to be on something that's "cool". If you've never ridden a bike before you really can't understand how easily you can get yourself in trouble on one. You really will be better off riding a 250 or maybe a smaller Katana to learn on.
