problems out the butt
Man I went out for a ride last night, got out on to Granby st. went to shift into 5th and noticed I have no fith gear
Wasnt really a big deal to me since you can stay in 4th till like 60. then on the way home after about a 2 hour ride the bitch just cut out. I think my timing tens. finally took a crap. No more riding for me for a while till I get her back from the shop.

i went out sunday and rode around with my new paint job and they damn timing tensioner went on my bike. Next thing i know is the rear wheel locked up and the motor throw a rode. Luckly mine is a 83 and i can get another motor cheap. it just sucks that I have a new painted bike and no motor.
geon... describe "just cut out" as thoroughly as you can... what exactly happened, what happens when you try and start it... CBR's are notorious for the regulator rectifier going bad from heat and vibration, i would probably suspect that before your CCT(cam chain tensioner), if a cam chain tensioner is going bad it will be very noisy, especially at certain rpms, and when it goes it very likely wouldn't be very pretty as your valve train has nothing actuating it and just gets to do whatever it feels like doing
but a better description would definetly be needed, it could be as simple as fouled plugs

Well I had been riding prolly like 1-1 1/2 hours when I noticed that I was slowing down, but my hand never moved on the throttle. The bike was still running at this time, So I go to give it more gas. Just a little but she keept slowing down, then just cut off and I rolled to the side of the road.
Now everytime before, when I started her up I could hear the timing chain slapping around but it wasnt loud. Once i gave it some gas like one or two revs up to about 5-6k the noise would go away. Kinda like the cct just needed some oil to it or something. When I dropped her off at the shop Bryan said it might just be somthing simple and not the CCT cause she still tries to turn over pretty strong.
I told him to change the CCT anyway since CBR's are also known for those going out, Ive got 24k on the clock with the orig. one in there.
If you have any ideas tho Del, feel free to give me a call please (757)754-2003 jason

i'd call ya but its almost 2 AM right now... but yea w/ 24k and the original CCT still in there it isn't a bad idea at all to have it replaced... did you go w/ the APE manual adjustable one, or the updated OEM(J01 version), either one is good as honda has fixed the problem on them now...
but a CCT going would be more of a one second everything is good, next second everything is very bad type of failure, not slowly die to a stop... that sounds exactly like the reg. rect. or simply some fouled plugs, i would pull your plugs first and see how they look, or ask your local dealer to test your reg. rect. before you go and buy a 200$ part(although if you do need one you can get them aftermarket through your local dealer from the Parts Unlimited for 119.95$, made by Rick's Electronics)
