What made you think the WRX was stock? I would think it had at least some tires considering the way it was being driven. The stock Potenzas (is that what they still come with?) are terrible. The race was back and forth the whole time. There were parts where the vw was quicker and parts where the wrx was quicker.

Please sell your vw. You aren't even willing to try and make it "faster". It can be made into a great car (performance and looks), but since you have already convinced yourself that it's a horrible car that's all it will ever be to you. That is obvious by your comments on the video...

LOL!

You obviously don't deserve the car. Get yourself a Focus.

I hate these threads. It will turn into an argument no matter what. I gave my input earlier, and have on a few other "should i get a wrx or a..." threads. just go drive the damn cars and decide for yourself.

that video was intresting. It was obvious were the awd came in handy. It had exiting power where as the fwd would spin.

the braking battle was obvious with the gti as the winner.

i'd say it was a close race between the two.

Exactly. Just like a comparison between any other two cars, they both have positive and negative qualities. This kid with the GLI expects too damn much for a car that he probably paid $20-22k for. It's a very well rounded car. It's not a 4 door race car that you can slap your car seat in the back of. It's quick, but not fast--stock.. just like the WRX.

A turbo upgrade would be icing on the cake, but isn't required to make worthwhile power. People have run 12 second ¼ miles with a stock turbo. I'd say that's more than decent with bolt-ons.

I'm not here to convince you that the GLI (or any 1.8t car) is better than a wrx, but all I'd like you to see is the potential your car has. That is the only reason I've come back to this thread and replied so many times. You are starting with an awesome base product: a car with a motor strong enough to make 500hp or a car that can make 220whp relatively easy that will be reliable and beat many cars on the street.

Well if that's all it's about, I will be the first to say that both of the cars have an enormous amount of potential.. and they both have their ups and downs in different areas. In some aspects, the GLI > WRX. In some aspects, the WRX > GLI... but as far as handling is concerned with the GLI, you would really be surprised how well a GLI can handle with the right suspension upgrades, and I'm not talking about $2,000 worth of upgrades... Like he said, a simple rear sway bar does WONDERS. I think the VW's are the most fun to drive hard on a road that is anything but straight! I've owned 9 of them and will continue to buy them in the future. Once you're in, there's no turning back.

You'll probably be happy with either, but keep in mind you're comparing two different cars designed for two different things. The WRX is a 2.0T making about the same amount of power as a 1.8T.. I can't speak on behalf of the WRX, but I can tell you it's very cheap to make 200+ whp with a 1.8T powerplant. VERY cheap.. and the GLI is a great all around package to begin with. As everyone else has said, the best thing you can do is drive both. Find someone with a modded WRX and an equally modded GLI or 1.8T in general in ride in both.
