It's exactly what I said.

Having a stretched tire allows people to run low offsets and have the car lower than it would be w/o stretched tires. I just re-read my comment multiple times and it makes sense to me.

You'd have more contact patch if you bought a wider tire that actually fit.

Don't argue it Ashley. We drive Mustangs and that can't make sense.

Stretched sidewall are good for 2 things

-fitment *low offset+low ride height*
-keeps the sidewalls stiffer, more direct response from the tires. Good for drifting, makes no sense for much else

I'm kinda clueless on how it's done or the adverese effects it might have, so if anyone has any experiece with it... any info would help. Heres a pic... I'm actually thinkng about the color as well. Different

I disagree with the bolded word. You just linked us an old photo of a car that already has it done.

As far as stretched go, I have no clue.

I imagine stretching tires as doing several things. The bad would include making the tire more vonerable to popping a bead as well as less contact area (stay with me). Tires are designed to have a stiff corner (where the tread meets the sidewall) Think of an 'L' shape. Now when you bend the sidewall in, it also bends where the leg of the tread portion is pointing (essentially pointing the leg towards the center of the rim). This makes for uneven distribution along the tread (greater wear on the outside). I'm sure this could be compensated with a lot of air pressure. But this would harden the tire up like no other (why they do this for drifting). This is just the way I interpret it.

True. My point is, a stretched 215 has a bigger contact patch than a non-stretched 215.

That said, I have 255s on 9" wide rim... oh and on a 240sx at that!

9" wide rims need 275's for a perfect fit.
