Default Stretching tires?

I've seen it on a few cars. I'm not asking whether you like it or not. Some people do some people don't. My question is.. is it anything more than buying a tire not quite wide enough and stretching over the rim to make it fit? Are the possibilites of tire failure greater because ofit? I'm kinda clueless on how it's done or the adverese effects it might have, so if anyone has any experiece with it... any info would help. Heres a pic... I'm actually thinkng about the color as well. Different

I have seen them on several cars...especially Prada Spec 2...since the widest they go are like 215/225. I would believe the integrity of the tire would be compromise because of the abnormal amount of force placed upon them.

I would highly recommend searching on either ziptied.com or zilvia.net about this. I do not see a reason to do it unless you are a) drifting b) trying to get a specific look involving the need to roll/pull your fenders and don't want to do it too much (stretching allows for more fender clearance). Also, you have to pick the right size or it looks very very very very ugly. People who don't like the way it looks really wouldn't like it w/ a, for example, 15X10 with a 205/55 as the side wall if far to large and will look retarded. You'd be better with a 225/40 or 45. Like I said search on those forums and you'll find many many pictures with people supporting and refuting the helpfulness/safety of it.

I'm pretty sure that a lot of people want to run more aggressive widths/offsets and having a stretched tire just allows them to do so while having the car as low as possible. Truthfully I see no reason why the Subaru you posted is running a stretched tire.

This might've already been said. I didn't read anything.

i think what he's trying to say is that having stretched tires allows you to lower your car a lot more b/c the tires tuck into the fenders.
