streched tire's 225 on a 9.5
Wikipedia says:
A race is a competition of speed. The competitors in a race try to complete a given task in the shortest amount of time. Typically this involves traversing some distance, but it can be any other task involving speed.
Also, the cow says:
Moo.
So yeah. Driftin' ain't racin'.

You probably meant that it is a competition, there is a difference between standard competition and a racing competition. Also NASA does not even recognize "drifting" as either on their "official" site, and makes no mention. They covered the event because they were already there to cover a sanctioned "racing" event.
hmm. kinda glad i told my opinion to the trooper that was asking about it, since there is supposedly gonna be a new rejection rule for stretched tires soon.
why people ride on the sidewalls i will never know.

Tire streching was around in japan back in the late 90s "hipari" tire. That's about as far as I can remember it. Seeing it on the "new" s14 silvia's on Option mags/tapes. It's been around since way before that. It's just something that's catching up. If you can find it still. One of my first post on dragva ever was about this subject 3-4 yrs ago. It's all in good taste as long as it's done correct. I'm mean jdm V.I.P has been around since the 80s and it's just catching up stateside. On that note usdm V.I.P has been around since the 70s-80s with the whole lowrider scene, and now with 20+ rims. Tire streching does have a purpose, wearing out tires at a higher rate
j/k
1.Eliminates sidewall flex by stretching it to where theres no room for the tire to move.
Air pressure can do the same thing
and like someone stated if you have some tires laying around...go for it! It is a saftey issue but hey, got to do what you got to do.
end history lesson :P

I'm not usually a big fan of laws related to cars, but I have no problem with this one and would fully back it. It's unsafe, not only to you, but to other cars on the road. Buy wheels and tires that fit your car, otherwise quit whining.
Why exactly do you "got to do it" in the first place? 95% of the idiots doing this can't tell the difference in the supposedly less-flexing sidewalls nor can they probably safely drive their cars at the limits where this would be an advantage. If they're driving like this on the street, then they're even bigger idiots and they're endangering others by doing "what you got to do". Why not just run DOT approved R-compound tires that usually have stiffer sidewalls and run a wider tire that's made to fit their wheels? I'd bet this would provide better handling anyways. If we're only talking drifting and on a track, then do what you want, you're only endangering yourselves, but if this is for street cars, it's fucking retarded.
