I would contact yamaha if they actually made any parts for it. Problem with the SHO is the aftermarket is starting to dry up a bit. Parts are starting to get really expensive. per liter the 3.0l V-6 that makes 300hp is just as impressive as a 2.2l I-4 that makes 220. still 100 hp per liter. and the h22 has VTEC my engine doesn't. The 3.2l (i think) in the TL Type-S makes 260, has VTEC and a dual stage intake manifold. And it's engine was a decade ahead of the SHO's.

as for the CL (not the TL, unless it has the same motor), it is a highly reliable engine...it's honda. how reliable is the yahama motor? (i'm really asking, i dunno) hopefully, it's not like a ford, lol.

And as for the Yamaha...
It was run at 10,000RPM for a few days with nothing noticible except for very high fuel consumption.
Ted Breaux's 89 Gen 1 5-spd SHO has over 255,000 miles on it and has been a daily driver and he even uses it to tow his boat. It has never suffered any major malady and recieved regular maintenence and 93 Octane.
If taken care of the SHO motor is just as reliable as the B series, 3800 series or cummins turbo diesel. That's good enought for me.

was that with any stress on it? the most work on the motor is the pulling of the car from a stop. but don't get me wrong, that's still impressive.

so what's the fastest SHO out there?
well i know a guy in canada who's putting down 427fwhp. He's running an 70mm TB, 80mm MAF, Custom fabricated Ram Air, and he's pushing 15 PSI out of a vortech supercharger with an after cooler i believe. I know of a lightened SHO known as the SR-71 running juice who's in the high 12's. The fastest guy i know personally is my boy alan SHO DWN by plates. He's run a 13.8 in the 1/4 and that was almost a year ago. I'm trying to drag him to dinwiddie to run it some more before he ships back home later this year.
as for the fastest i really don't know to be honest. i don't imagine anyone has broken the 11 second mark unless it's been truly race modified...

I guess I should jump in this for shits n giggles. I can confirm a couple things Justin said, as the original design by Yamaha of Japan had an output of just over 300hp to the flywheel due to a much better exhaust setup. The engine is capable of doing 13,000 rpm but sustained 10,000 rpm for several days without damage. Ford didnt contact Yamaha back in 1985 to make an engine for them, as the SHO didnt even make a debut till 1989. The DOHC 24V setup was ahead of its time back in the mid 80's, with intake runners that allow for better air flow and secondaries to open up at 4000rpm. Thats when all hell breaks loose. In 1993, an automatic trans was first offered which eats up more horsepower and adds weight so Yamaha designed a larger 3.2 displacement. Both Justin and I have that. Power specs are 220hp, 215lbs ft of torque. Mines got a few power adders so I dynoed 249 at the fly at Abacus. Thats 199 to the wheels.

Yamaha... is the shit... theres nothing else to say about.. its nothing short of OMG a tuarus just pulled on a vr4 on the interstate from 70-140... and yes ford did take the original hp and torque numbers down.. different reasons for this have been thought of.. the one I think makes the most sense is it didnt want some little japanese motor to make more hp and torque than its big bad 5.slow... but when push comes to shove the sho beats the mustangs of the same year in *most* cases... But this isnt what surprises me about ford.. in the late 70's for had a turbo 4 cylinder that made over 225hp and 250lbft of torque.. just nothing to put it in... they later found something to put it in... TurboCoupe's, SVO's, and the Merkur... AND CHRIS WONT LET ME IN HIS CLUB!
