Those Power #'s and prices sound like wishful thinking. Especially with gas prices nearing $4 a gallon in some areas.

I honestly doubt a 550 hp version will ever be relesed due to the fact that the z06 has 505 hp. I dont think Chevy would make any car in their line up have more hp numbers (or any kind of #s for that matter) than their flagship car. It would be a nice concept and i woul dlove to see it happen, but it wouldn't happen unless they did it with the corvette first.

Yeah, 550hp sounds kinda ridiculous for a camaro, I mean come on, the camaro's always been runner-up to the vette, so there's no way it would have more power (since hp is all most Americans care about anyway). I would say anything after 400hp would probably be the most power a camaro would get. Side note, wish they would change the headlights and taillights, they look like they have down syndrome.

Camaro for mid 30's ? F that, just get a Vette for a few grand more..literally

If the price isn't rite it won't sell like they want it too no matter how cool it looks. Mustang always lagged in performace but the price was (is) rite, look how well it sells

You guys are 100% right that the Camaro can't compete with the Vette, if it did, then Chevy would have some serious issues. The LS2 is gone...no more....they aren't making them ever again after 2008. The LS3 will be the Vette's new powerplant, and yes, the LS3 WILL be in the Camaro, GM has already confirmed this. Of course it's going to be de-tuned so it doesn't match the Vette, but the beautiful thing is that with some aftermarket love you can have a poor-man's Vette, just like a 4th gen SS. It didn't take a whole lot to make a 4th gen SS perform like a base Vette, but of course the SS was expensive to offset that.

As for the 4th gens, true that GM stopped selling them...because they stopped trying with them. The F-bodies got NO love from R&D or any sort of changes in it's final years, so the market got bored with them. I personally believe that the Camaro could have gone for a complete change and been fine and dandy, but I won't even try to defend the powers-that-be at GM when the 4th gen was laid-off. Idiots.

And the top-of-the-line Camaro will be mid-30's....the run-of-the-mill V8 base model will be high-20s.

And since when is $20k "a few grand"? I'm an ex-Supra owner, and even I find that a bit silly...unless you're talking used Vette for a few grand more. Hell, might as well buy a 15 year old Foxbody then with that thinking...it's much cheaper for the same performance.

Oh wait, because that's not the point.

Merf, You can get a brand new C6 for very high 30s right now. Check out the 'vette forums. That is where the few grand comes from.

They put LS1's in base C5's and 4th gen F-bodies.

Remember the Vette is significantly lighter than an F-body, so with equal drivers it will obviously be faster.

Beat me to it.
Even still, because it is true that all Americans look at is horsepower, the LS3s in the C6 and new Camaro won't have the same horsepower rating. The LS3 in the Camaro will more than likely be detuned just like they did with the LS1 in the C5 and 4th gen F-body. Even though we all know that even if the new Camaro had more horsepower than the C6, the C6 is still probably going to be significantly lighter and outperform it.

Care to provide proof where GM has said this and not just rumors on forums? Because I've got some wonderful swampland I'd love to sell you if you believe those numbers. MSRP may be a few G's close to that, but you know damn well they will be selling over MSRP for a good while once they are released.
