Default Mustangs =

Heh-heh-heh....

Ok, here's the deal. A few people that I know personally alreayd heard abotu this everywhere from the 757 to DC thanks to me recruiting assistance for my poor friend and his broke down turd.

(sidenote: He's bitching about my wording already)

Ok, VR-4ever's roommate, and a long time frined of mine (not on the site) has an '01 GT. Last night he calls me on the way home from Arlington and asks if I can assist him.

He was playing around with a Porsche on I-95s around 100 or so. They slow down for upcoming traffic and give each other a and wave. Well, Fred (the friend) starts hearing a knocking form his engine. He pulls off on the next exit. When he stops he hears how bad it really is and shuts the car down quickly. When he checked the oil, well...there was none. Zero. Not a drop. No evidence of an explosion or smoke or smells or ANYTHING...weird. So he fills it with 5.5 quarts, and starts it back up. Still making a nasty racket, but after conferring with some people he talked to...he decided his best chance was to try to baby it as close to home (VA Beach) as possible. If he stopped quick enough, maybe the fresh oil saved it, and if NOT...well, the damage was done better run it till it drops so he can be closer to home.

The latter was true. He got to NN, right before the tunnel when the engine finally started to rumble/knock/shake/you name it. It's probably 5 revolutions from throwing a rod/siezing up completely now.

So here's why he wanted this posted:
1) Possible causes?
2) Possible solutions (it really sounds like the knocking is in the top end of the motor...the frequency of the knock sounds more valvetrain than anything....but as loud as a rod or something)
3)If a re-build is in order...what is a cheap torque-power build for reliable high-mileage daily driven car? By "cheap" I mean around $1k more than a stock replacement rebuild would already be anyway.

Comment away mullet-people.

Ok...he wants me to add the fact that the Rustang made it drom DC to exit 104 with likely no oil hanging with a Porsche...not to mention after the damage is done it still made it from north of Richmond to Newport News.

So this is HIS statement: Mustangs =
(That hurt to post, lol)

How long had it been since he had checked/changed the oil?

.. and duh he hung with a Porsche. It's faster without oil. It was a dry-sump, minus the sump.

Holy shit...I'm literally laughing my ass off.

As for Spic's question: No CEL or oil pressure drop until he exited the hwy, then everything went crazy. It had been a month 1/2 since last oil change.

ALSO, when it finally died in NN, there was no drop in oil level...so a leak is unlikely. Very weird.

He's got money, he's comfortable...but he's not one to dump a lot of money into a car.

Just throw in a new/rebuilt short block and keep on racing 2.7 automatic Boxsters.
