If the damage is just in the top end. Sen the heads out to get ported and polished. Steen racing will do it starting at $700. Alsoget a set of cams from either VT engines or Comp (call either company and see what the y recomend ($550-680). With cams new springs wil also be required depending on the amount of lift ($184 from comp). If he still has money to spend after that, get some forged Flat top pistons ($540 mabe less depending on brand) and forged rods ($572 from Manley). After all that he should get in contact with Ed Clark for a custom SCT tune to make it all worl properly (not sure what he charges for tuning.

the mod motors are oil burners....its just that simple. but if i was him, id pull the plugs and check them out....

when the same thing happened to my car, we added oil, then it started missing and whaddya know...#1&2 cylinders not sealing...bye bye rings.

and with that amount of oil and beating on it, thats a good way to spin some rod bearings, which is where id put my money

No evidence of an explosion or smoke or smells or ANYTHING...weird. So he fills it with 5.5 quarts, and starts it back up. Still making a nasty racket, but after conferring with some people he talked to...he decided his best chance was to try to baby it as close to home (VA Beach) as possible. If he stopped quick enough, maybe the fresh oil saved it, and if NOT...well, the damage was done better run it till it drops so he can be closer to home.

The latter was true. He got to NN, right before the tunnel when the engine finally started to rumble/knock/shake/you name it. It's probably 5 revolutions from throwing a rod/siezing up completely now.

So here's why he wanted this posted:
1) Possible causes?
2) Possible solutions (it really sounds like the knocking is in the top end of the motor...the frequency of the knock sounds more valvetrain than anything....but as loud as a rod or something)
3)If a re-build is in order...what is a cheap torque-power build for reliable high-mileage daily driven car? By "cheap" I mean around $1k more than a stock replacement rebuild would already be anyway.

Comment away mullet-people.
yeah id say a rod bearing. or 2. or 3

Does he have any enemies?
haha! man, that would be totally fucked up if someone had drained it. An oil pump will build pressure even without oil registering on the dipstick...
just as long as there are no holes or leaks anywhere
