it's definitely in his best interest to buy a stock one if he's at all concerned about reliability.
However, there is that 10% that the car is well taken care of. Someone getting rid of it because of financial reasons or upgrading to a different car.

It is a blanket statement you are throwing out there. If the OP research, he should be able to find one that will suit his needs. But what the hell do I know, I rock a camry.

Ive drove my car back and forth from coast to coast. LA to Daytona Beach, To Miamii, Up to New York and then back to San Diego and back again.

You cant go off miles on a car on how well its been taken care of.

One who beats a car up then fixes it with quality parts is not the same as another who breaks the car and replaces parts till they cant afford it anymore and have to sell the car.

I would have to say DCevoclub.com more as its a smaller community and they will answer you right off the back.

EvoM you would have to filter out alot of information. Yet you can search alot on that site to find some information which has already been talked about.

I guess everyone basically hit everything.... definitely go to evom... they have everything you need up there... including the cars.

I bought mine completely stock... and searched pretty good for one, just because I don't trust people. You're right about peace of mind. But for <25 grand you can basically buy one that is really well built and won't have too much to worry about. Deranged is right... theres a bunch of people that baby these things and are getting rid of them for financial reasons.. not a bad time to buy one at all.

If you want a drag monster, get an 8... which you should be able to find one with alotta power in your price range on evom and it will more than likely be well built too.

If you want a nice daily get a 9... they are getting great numbers out of those things with just simple bolt ons and a retune. ...and I like the look better... or do what I did and get an 8 with a 9 front end

the stock clutch is fine as long as you don't beat the living piss out of it. if the clutch has been replaced a bunch of times or the stock one ain't in there... there is probably a reason why.

and Don't get a black one... they're a pain in the ass to keep clean.

Everyone is basically spot on with advice. I'd would highly suggest going for a 5-speed IX. They'll be lower in mileage, usually less modded, and just better overall (bigger turbo, MIVEC, better engine cooling, ACD). Or at least pickup an 05 VIII because that one had ACD and 10.5 hotside. Avoid an 03 if possible, they were still working out some minor bugs. P0300 error code for instance.

Yet a reflash takes care of this issue.

That and a 30$ code scanner. Haha

Exactly, I can name SEVERAL cars that have under 30k that have had the daylights beat out of them. I bought my WRX with barely over 100k and It has been taken care of and driven right more than most other ones under 100k. The condition of the car is all on the owner, the mileage plays some effect but not much. Gary's evo would be one that I wouldn't hesitate to take a second look at.
