Can a car like a Corvette ever be a sleeper? Or any sports car for that matter?
Ha. C'mon now:
There's some cars that can be considered sleepers, and some that can't. You can make a civic run 10's on street tires, as with a mustang. That would be considered a sleeper.
But would you consider a vette, or skyline running 10's a sleeper? No. You would just say it's fast.
Any car designed to go fast, would only be considered faster. But a grocery getter beating on a sports car? That my friend, is a sleeper.

As Einstein proved all things are relative. Can a c5 or c6 sitting by itself be considered a sleeper I would say no.
But a 'vette could be a sleeper if the person racing it knew they had something for a stock one but found out he was messing with one packing a turbo and a quiet exhaust.
Say somebody in an 11 second dsm pulls along side a stock looking c5 on the highway and expects it to have minimal mods and thinks he is going to waste it. However if the corvette was modded and beat the dsm then in that case it could be argued that it was a sleeper.
Same scenario except the corvette has a license plate that says "TT ls6" and the dsm driver expects the corvette to have something for him. that one would not be a sleeper.
The term sleeper really is kind of antiquated anymore anyways, anybody that has been around a dragstrip long enough has seen nearly anything and everything running fast.

So you are saying a Corvette is a Sports car but could be a "sleeper" Super Car with the right mods.....
I was stopping at my Mazda dealer, when I saw a guy launch his Mazdaspeed 6 from a light. Ran into him outside the dealer and got to talking with him. He was insisting that his car was a sleeper. Yet, I begged to differ, due to the badges on the car. Anyone that knew what it was, would have known it wasn't a sleeper.
yeah i agree with philbert some vettes we knjow are slow, like the early sixes and the crossfire cars
if one of those were riding around looking stock and were modded to go fast then yeah it would be a sleeper, cause those crossfire cars were dogs
just like if an 82 to 84 trans am were fast that would be a sleeper cause heck most of them only had 140hp and that was with the h.o. motor

of course they can be... i rolled up on a corvette with my single cam civic and looked at him... it looked 100% stock.... so i gave him
because it looked slow
because it looked slow
Yes, you can, and here's how:
First, you put on a carbon fiber hood and some nice CCW wheels. Then you install a cat-back exhaust and a better camshaft. And then what seals the deal is getting a license plate that says "500hpZ06."
